The city was constructed by the Bijapur Sultanate in the 15th century, and served as capital of Portuguese India from the 16th century until its abandonment in the 18th century due to a plague. Under the Portuguese, it is said to have once been a city of nearly 200,000 where from, before the plague, the Portuguese traded across continents. The remains of the city are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Old Goa is approximately 10 kilometres east of the state capital Panaji. The best way to reach here is to book a taxi from Madgao via local taxi association. The name doodh sagar literally means sea of milk, the water here falls from such a height that it forms a white foam which looks like milk. Because of this milk  cascading this waterfall gets its name- Doodh sagar Waterfalls. With the magnificent altitude of more than 300 meters, this falls is amongst India’s highest waterfalls. Trekking, nature walk, sunbathing all are present in the bag of Doodh sagar for tourists.
